The SC Atty General has been running an unofficial & now official campaign for governor for the past four years or so, and he once saw an opportunity in bashing gasoline retailers. I’m surprised that “his report” identifies such a sparse number of “gougers” and instead actually focuses on the market response to shortages. I wonder what happened (maybe he’s just a publicity hound). The charity contributions are intriguing.

There appears to have been a bit of “face saving” going on here. The size of the “charitable contributions” suggests that the AG did not have much of a case. The forced “donations” likely were or will be offset by reduced donations to some other cause(s).
