I’ve been following the Tour with two different sites: Daily Peleton for good graphics and well-written post-stage commentary, and Cycling News for five-minute updates during the stages. The combination has done a pretty good job of creating the sense of energy and excitement of the Tour, even without seeing it.
I was also excited to see today that the above-the-fold cover story and picture in today’s Philadelphia Enquirer is the team Discovery Channel victory in yesterday’s team time trial and Lance Armstrong’s #1 standing after only 4 stages.
Just another example of the fact that Lance Armstrong is a class act, from the Cycling News live coverage of Stage 5:
Cyclingnews sources near the Discovery Channel team bus at the start reported that Lance Armstrong will not wear the yellow jersey today, to honour the fact that Dave Zabriskie lost the jersey because of an accident yesterday.
That last happened in 1991, when Greg Lemond refused to take the jersey at first because Rolf S?rensen crashed, broke his collarbone and had to quit the race on the previous day.
It’s also remarkable how well the American riders are doing this year, both on team Discovery Channel and others. George Hincapie, especially.
Today, Stage 5, has both sprint interest and mountain interest. There’s one class 4 climb and three sprints. Personally, I love following the sprinters and their quest for the green jersey, particularly Robbie McEwen. The BBC had a fun little column from him last week discussing sprinting and training for it.
